About the event
One day VHF Course to obtain your basic VHF radio license, required by law to operate a VHF radio on a vessel. The RYA VHF Short-Range Certificate (SRC) course is a legal requirement for operating a marine VHF radio with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) on UK-flagged vessels. It covers emergency procedures (Mayday, DSC), radio operation, and channel usage.
Purpose: Teaches you how to operate a Marine VHF/DSC radio safely.
Topics: Covers EPIRB, SART, Distress calls, Urgency alerts, and voice procedures.
Classroom: 1 day, including 3 hours previous study.
Minimum Age: 12 years to take the course, but 16 to take the exam and obtain the licence.
Exam: Includes a written paper and a practical assessment, with a fee payable directly to the RYA.
