Okay, I am not too big to admit when I may be wrong about something...
It is true that sailing cannot be mastered from reading a book. But you can learn the concepts, and you can certainly get a good start on learning many other areas such as:
Navigation
Preparation
Safety
Maintenance
Pilotage
Seamanship
Sailing Theory
Tides
Weather
And a whole host of experience passed down by your instructor. That is why SeaClan runs shore based courses for all of the main RYA certificates from Essential Navigation and Seamanship through to Yacht Master.
Back in the day I was not a fan of offering either of my professions (psychology and Sailing) online. Therapy/coaching I felt needed face to face contact. But with international clients, the whole covid debacle, and a new generation I have been proved wrong.
And when it comes to sailing, although I acknowledged that you could learn a lot of knowledge on the subject, I had always felt that you needed the instructors experience to really explain what was being covered. But now I can do that as when you sign up to our online sailing courses you not only get the team at the school for support, but you get me too. So that ticks that box too.
So like many things over time, the digital world has caught up with us and the bottom line is not everybody can get to a centre for 6 days to train. So we thought we would bridge the gap and join up with My Sailing Course to offer ENS, Day Skipper, Yacht Master, and even VHF.
